This PDF file gives an over view and specifications of StairDesigner
This is the StairDesigner manual in French .
This is the StairDesigner manual in English
This document will help you through your first steps using StairDesigner. I gives an over view and a worksheet to follow to optimize your stair design process and save time and effort.
This document gives detailed instructions for using my STAIRFILE service and preparing the DXF files for workshop use. I strongly advise yous to read this manuel before using StairDesigner DXF files for workshop ark ups or CNC machining.
If you don’t want to learn all the ins and outs of stair building youcan just take a free template and edit it to fit your own specifications. This document shows how to edit a template drawing to build a custom stair. If you want to design a stair really fast with this is the way to go.

Complementary software
This 2D CAD software is free and very useful for modifying StairDesigner DXF files. ProgeCad is very similar to AutoCad and even uses the DWG file format directly. So if you know AutoCad you’ll have no problem using it . If you don’t know AutoCad then using ProgeCad will be a great way to learn. Knowing how to use AutoCad is a real plus for anyone involved in design work. StairDesigner’s DXF drawings can be directly loaded into ProgeCad .
<<<CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FREE 2D VERSION OF PROGECAD>>>
The full version ProgeCad 2011 gives full AutoCad 3D and imaging for only 1/10th of the price of Autocad.
Here is a quick demo video of what you can do with the full version. It’s very useful for inserting StairDesigner 3D models into their stairwells and creating fully rendered images.
You can down load the 30 day trail version from here:
<<<CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD PROGECAD FULL 3D version, 30 trail>>>>
and if you would like to buy the full version for only 253 euros click this PayPal link:
This great bit of software will optimize pannel cutting for free. You input the cutting list and the pannel sizes and it tells you where to cut all you parts. This version works well with up to 30 parts, after you’ll have to buy a full version. For my 30+ parts projects I just optimize for 30 parts 2 or 3 times. Give it a try it’s free.

Example Stair Projects
These compressed files contain:
- An example stair files that has been optimized for real work shop assembly. You can just modify the dimensions and build the same stair to your sizes, or use these files as working examples.
- The corresponding DXF 2D (the entire staircase and part by part) and 3D files for modifying in AutoCad. Of course you can use any other CAD software that can read DXF.
- The workshop document in PDF. This document contains the plans of the stairs and each stair part and the cutting lists.
- Some compressed files also contain Autocad drawing and screen captures of the stair project.
All of these stairs have been built full size so you can just load them into StairDesigner and modify the parameters. Just print out the new DXF files and workshop document (or buy a StairFile) to get instantly a real working project.
But be carefull, the DXF files are directly from StairDesigner and should be adjusted in a CAD program to suit your needs and workshop practice, before being used for marking out or machining. The adjustments you need to make will depend on things like, the size of the boards you use, the type of joints you want, your preffered shape for strings and handrails etc. Send me an email if you need help in adjusting these stair files.

This stair has 14 steps with a half turn mid way landing. The staircase has 35mm cut strings and 50mm handrails that are assembled into 80x80mm newel posts. StairDesigner has some problems with cut string and newel post assembly so the drawings have been ajusted using AutoCad. This project also contains the Autocad files with a bullnose step and under stair pannelling added.

- Metal spiral stair
Although Stair Designer gives more detailed drawings for wooden stairs it can also be very useful for drawing metal stairs. In this example the wood thicknesses have been replaced by the thickness of the metal sheets and Stair Designer will calculate and draw all the parts just like a wooden stair. The drawings have to be edited in AutoCad or ProgeCAD to add assembly details.
